Hal Blaine & the Wrecking Crew
Published in Paperback by Hal Leonard (February, 1990)
Authors: Hal Blaine and David Goggin
Average review score:

A great read -easy and fast, leaves you wanting more
This is one of those books that you just can't put down! I confess I read 3/4 last night, and the rest before work
today! Couldn't put it down. I thought I knew a bit about Blaine's recording history (Spector, wrecking crew, beach boys, etc), but as with Carol [Kaye], the credentials of this guys is literally a who's-who of my favorite records and all time classics! If I may swear so, *Forking* A this cat can Play! Now I have a better understanding of his development
with jazz cats and the touring years. Nice job!

Hammer on the Rock: A Midrash Reader
Published in Paperback by Schocken Books (June, 1962)
Author: Nahum N. Glatzer
Average review score:

An essential gem
This slim volume is the perfect introduction to Midrash; it's material is drawn from the Talmud and midrashic writings i.e. first five centuries of the common era. The introduction is very brief; the editor allows the selected passages to speak for themselves which they do beautifully. Some of the material is very specifically Jewish in the sense of relating directly to Jewish history; but most of it speaks to religious truth in the sense found in most religions.

An example: "Someone came before Rabab and said: 'The mayor of my town has told me: Go and kill so and so; it you do not, I will have you killed.' The Raba said to him: 'Let him kill you, but you must not fill. What do you think, your blood is redder thananother man's? Perhaps his blood is redder than yours.'"

"A Rock Musician's Journey Hell and Back"
Roll the camera backwards to the 1970's, find a good looking, all America youth living the traditional "good life" in a small southern North Carolina town. The boy is loved by his family and grandparents. The musically inclined family are Sunday church goers, well respected, hard working people of the community.
Roll the camera forward and see the youth, now transformed to a long-haired bass guitar player in the newly formed southern rock band, Blackfoot. The young bass guitar player is gifted in his craft and on fire to go to musical stardom.....Look further down the film to see the human being rise, only steps away from the dream of success, silently begin to implode within the drug culture of rock music....A spiritual implosion, so deep, as to be life threatening....Look into his face and see many of our American youth, apathetic, turning on, entering gateways of spiritual no return.
This story is true and can be read by teenagers, parents, lovers of rock music and believers in destiny. Dr. Lenny Stadler's life is an adrenalin push to the edge and back. From Hard Rock to Solid Rock deserves attention. The story is for the young, the old and the naysayer. As the book is put down some may hear the tolling of the bell....the incredile truth....invite darkness into the soul and evil will come....but turn toward the light of God's love, there awaits unimaginable, life and spirtual transformation. Dr. Stadler's story is truly remarkable and will be remembered, especially by the baby boomer generation.

Headcleaner: Text Fur Einsturzende Neubauten/Text for Collapsing New Buildings
Published in Paperback by Die Gestalten Verlag (December, 1997)
Authors: Blixa Bargeld, Maria Zinfert, Matthew Partridge, and Maria Zinnfert
Average review score:

A must have for fans of Einstuerzende Neubauten
Headcleaner contains nearly all of Bargeld's lyrics, an interesting interview by Harry Lachner, partial discography, "net of tracks," and a nifty glow-in-the-dark cover. Aside from the lyrics themselves, possibly the most interesting thing in the book is the "net of tracks," which looks rather like a subway map, charting Bargeld's songs. The lyrics themselves, while enhanced by Neubauten's music, stand alone quite well. One can't help but see the threads of mind/body dissonance, destruction, passion, irony and lonely existenialism at the heart of his work. It's quite beautiful.

Heart of Stone: The Definitive Rolling Stones Discography, 1962-1983
Published in Hardcover by Pierian Pr (December, 1985)
Author: Felix Aeppli
Average review score:

The Absolute Reference
For the absolute die-hard fan this book cannot be replaced. It details the recordings the Stones made right down to the recording sessions and which records (including boolegs) they appeared on.

While this book is not one to be read from cover to cover, it does provide every piece of information you could ever need. I just used it to settle a bet as to whether "Honky Tonk Women" or "Country Honk" was released first. I won.

Heat Wave (Rock and Roll Reference No 25)

Author: David Bianco
Average review score:

Excellent reference for the Motown/Soul Music Fan
Being a fan of the Motown Sound, this book gives excellent reference materials to the person who is trying to collect records from the old Motown catalog. The discographies for each individual label (Tamla, Soul, etc.) is complete and very accurate. My hats are off to Mr. Bianco on this book.
